Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The Sigma Xi Rice-TMC Chapter’s IRB was established in September 2015 after approval from the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) (IRB# IORG0008594). The IRB service is made available to all Sigma Xi members for limited types of human subjects research. This service intends to uphold the Society’s mission:

“To enhance the health of the research enterprise, foster integrity in

science and engineering, and promote the public’s understanding of

science for the purpose of improving the human condition”

An IRB is an essential component of human subjects research process. The goal of the IRB is to ensure that the researchers uphold ethical standards and human research subjects are protected.
